Shepherd's purse is a crop that is relatively easy to grow and does not require much special care. Sowing is mainly done

in the autumn (early September), and the key is to sow the seeds using the broadcasting method and lightly cover them with soil.

    Sowing Season
Shepherd's purse is a low-temperature plant that prefers a cool climate.

Autumn sowing (recommended): Early September is the most suitable time. If sown at this time, harvesting can begin in late autumn of that year, and the remaining seedlings can be overwintered and harvested again in the spring of the following year.

Spring sowing: If the purpose is to harvest in the spring, it should be sown between mid and late February. If sowing is delayed, flower stalks will emerge in the hot weather, making it difficult to use as spring greens.

    Sowing Method
Since shepherd's purse seeds are photoblastic seeds that require light to germinate, they should not be covered with too much soil.
    1. Field preparation: Apply base fertilizer and prepare the field for sowing. Fertile soil that is sunny and has good drainage is ideal.
    2. Seed preparation: Because the seeds are very small, it is a good idea to mix them with about 50% sand to prevent them from being sown too densely when broadcasting.
    3. Sowing: Evenly scatter the seeds over the prepared field using the broadcasting method.
    4. Covering and watering: After sowing, gently scratch the soil surface with a rake or similar tool so that the seeds are lightly pressed into the soil. Be careful, as burying them too deep can hinder germination. After sowing, water gently using a sprinkler to maintain soil moisture. It usually takes about 1-2 weeks for germination if proper temperature and moisture conditions are maintained.
    Cultivation and Management
Once the seeds germinate, thin them out at appropriate intervals so that the healthy individuals can grow well.

Top dressing: Since the growing period is short and nutrient requirements are relatively low, management focusing on base fertilizer is sufficient, but it is advantageous to advance the timing of top dressing for early spring harvesting.

Harvesting: In the case of autumn sowing, harvesting can be done from mid-November to early April of the following year.

I first purchased this for my husband and children, but now I send it to both my parents' and in-laws' homes so that they can stay healthy. I now make sure to send it to my parents-in-law, who are 80, so they never run out. I will definitely continue to use your great products more often.
